Mission
The SafeLIGHT Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting safe driving behavior through charitable giving to traffic safety programs and to those people and organizations that support responsible driving.
Our core values:
Through civic and community engagement, the SafeLIGHT Foundation connects the community and law enforcement to traffic safety programming that is centered around improving safe driving behavior and supporting families impacted by traffic accidents or fatalities.
The SafeLIGHT Foundation’s programs focus on community outreach, law enforcement, teen drivers and seniors, as well as support for families that have been negatively impacted by traffic injuries or fatalities.
Our Programs
Teen Ambassador Program
One of the leading causes of death among teens in America is motor vehicle accidents. To address this critical issue, the SafeLIGHT Foundation developed a program to provide safe driving to new teen drivers. Teens serve as Traffic Safety Ambassadors within their high school community. This means developing and practicing good driving skills and sharing and encouraging others in their schools to do the same.
Ambassadors Learn How To:
Create powerful public service messages
Hold town hall meetings
Create awareness campaigns
Work on a public access TV show
Why This Program?
There are nearly
1.3 million accidents involving teen drivers, making it the number one killer of teens in America.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2019, crashes involving teen drivers killed 2,042 people. To address this critical issue, the SafeLIGHT Foundation has developed a teen driving program, “Teen Ambassador,” which is intended to provide continuing safe driving education to new teens who have received their driver's licenses.
The Foundation proudly highlights its partnerships with 21 schools and the awarding of 41 Ambassador scholarships for college. Together, these efforts have made a significant impact, bringing our total contributions to an impressive $97,500.
Seniors Matter Program
The Seniors Matter program helps educate senior citizens about safe driving practices. In addition, the SafeLIGHT Foundation hosts safe driving seminars focused on reintroducing seniors to the rules of the road, and trains seniors on how to use the new technology that is featured in modern cars.
Access to transportation provides easier access to health care, increased social engagement, and an improved subjective quality of daily life for senior citizens. While driving offers senior citizens a sense of independence, seniors should be informed about safe driving practices. This program includes education on new automotive technology, as well as ways to incorporate inexpensive vehicle adaptations to improve safety, thus reducing the risk of collisions. According to the Centers for Disease Control, seniors aged 65 and over are more than twice as likely as younger drivers to be killed when involved in crashes. The SafeLIGHT Foundation emphasizes a focus on safety and understands the importance of mobility and transportation to ensure senior citizens remain active in their communities.

Teen Ambassador 2023-24
Working with Safelight this past year has shown me why driving safely is important. Joining the program made it easy for me to convert my performance experiences and creativity and use that for the program. When even doing an advertisement for safe driving, it was simple for me to showcase why it’s important to provide the information that teens can use for driving for themselves and for anyone around them.

This program has brought me many LIFE skills, such as the importance of driving, responsibility, building relationships and public speaking. This program brought opportunities to the table, like meeting with one of the Sun Times reporters or even meeting the Secretary of State.
I learned many things and I’m grateful. One of my favorites of the program was developing a skit that brought attention to driving under the influence as a teen. My friends and I got to perform the skit in front of our school. SafeLIGHT made me courageous, confident and
determined. I highly encourage my peers to join. It’s a great learning experience and I’m thankful for the long lasting memories it brought.
